Our Belief
Christianity has a hierarchy of belief: some things are absolutely central, others are authoritative but secondary, and others are historical or traditional.
GOD and Jesus Christ
This is the absolute centre.
- One God – eternal, creator, holy, personal.
- Jesus Christ – God the Son, fully divine and fully human, who lived, died, and rose again.
- The Holy Spirit – God’s presence and power working in believers.
Together this is the Trinity, the foundational Christian belief.
Everything else in Christianity flows from this.
Bible
Christians believe the Bible is:
- Inspired by God
- Authoritative for faith and life
- The primary source of Christian teaching
Different traditions understand “inspired” differently (literal, historical-critical, etc.), but all mainstream Christian groups treat Scripture as the highest written authority.
Salvation
Christians believe:
- Humanity is separated from God by sin
- Jesus’ death and resurrection reconcile people to God
- Salvation is by grace, received through faith, not earned by good works
- Believers are called to live transformed lives
This is the central message of the New Testament.
Church
Christians believe the Church is:
- The community of believers
- The Body of Christ on earth
- Guided by the Holy Spirit
- Responsible for teaching, worship, and sacraments
Different denominations have different structures (Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant), but all see the Church as spiritually important.
Church Doctrine & Tradition
Christians do believe in doctrine — but doctrine is derived from Scripture, not equal to Scripture.
Examples:
- The Trinity
- The Incarnation
- The Resurrection
- The sacraments
- Moral teachings
In Catholicism and Orthodoxy, Sacred Tradition is also authoritative.
In Protestantism, Scripture alone is the highest authority.
Patriarchs and Biblical Figures
Christians believe in:
- Abraham
- Isaac
- Jacob
- Moses
- David
- The prophets
- The apostles
But they are not objects of worship.
They are examples of faith, part of salvation history, and witnesses to God’s work.
