Food

Are you so dull? Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.

NIV Mark 7:18–20

All foods are clean: In Mark 7:19, Jesus explicitly states that food passing through the stomach and out of the body does not make a person unclean. This was a radical teaching in the first-century Jewish context, where certain foods were considered ritually unclean.

Defilement comes from within: In Mark 7:20–23, Jesus explains that evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness all come from the heart and are what truly defile a person.
