The Sun Goddess

Zaid, I have a question: can I worship the daughters with my friends in the tribe?

What? No, of course not. That’s idolatry, Zaynab.

But, Zaid,… Could you?

I’ll show you why it’s idolatry. See the Sun outside? Don’t look directly at it; my father mentioned to me how he did, and it scorched his eyes for staring into it.

A sunlit marketplace in the hot sun.

Yes, I see; that’s the sun goddess; she is the sun who rises in the East and sets in the West, in a fiery pool – the Jews took me past it, a beautiful sight.

The sun sets the sea on fire!

My father mentioned that to me as well; he said that is where his eyes were scorched. But let’s remember that the sun goddess prostrates to the moon god at night, mostly, and at other times the moon god sails across the sky, glowing and silent, lighting up the night. Remember, their daughters are Al Lat, Al Uzza and Manat.

Allah, the dead, broken, stone idol, in Mecca, Petra, Jordan.
Al Lat, Al Uzza, Lion, Allah (Al Lah, Hubaal, Baal and Sin) and Manat, with the Sun goddess in the background arch.

Yes, and their pet lion, too – in the doorway, the guardian of the years.

The lion leaps around, making the year longer sometimes.
A cat leaping from a door.

That’s right, Zaynab. Now we know from the Bible, the great book of the Lord, GOD, that idolatry is wrong. We don’t worship idols. They do nothing but are merely places for Satan to hide and whisper temptations.

I understand, I think. The idols are nothing but a waste of time. And worse, a temptation.

The thunder is the words, and the thought is the lightning.

In the Bible, Moses talks about GOD setting all these things into motion, right at the start of creation. They are not gods. They’re just things for our benefit. The sun shines during the day, lighting the world. The moon lights up the night, so children are not too frightened, and we go to the outside toilet that Muhammad made for us. The daughters? They do not exist. They’re just idols, like the sun goddess and the moon god. They’re all idols, like the 360 idols around the Kaaba.

I was going to sacrifice these fruits to them – let’s have them for lunch along with some cheese.

A delicious repast.

Thank you, my wife.
