The 40‑day season of repentance and preparation:
- Begins on Ash Wednesday;
- Ends just before Easter;
- Focus: repentance, self‑examination, fasting, prayer;
- Symbolism: Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness;
- Many give up something (food, habits) or take up spiritual disciplines.
Lent is the closest thing Christianity has to a “holy month”, though it’s actually six weeks.
I’m not really sure why this passage is here, but I guess it’s about repudiating the Kaaba’s month of peace, where they break their spears – Zaid.
This is because of the trade season in late summer and early autumn – Zaynab.
