Koran 7:148-149

7:148 And the people of Moses made, after [his departure], from their ornaments a calf – an image having a lowing sound.

Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to a way?

They took it [for worship], and they were wrongdoers.

149 And when regret overcame them and they saw that they had gone astray, they said, “If our Lord does not have mercy upon us and forgive us, we will surely be among the losers.”

Koran 7:148-149

What a terrible summary of NIV Exodus 32:1-4!

32 When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”

Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”

NIV Exodus 32:1-4

As you can see it’s Aaron that made this happen. Verse 149 of the Koran is simply Muhammad’s fabrication.

Muhammad makes a terrible summary of what happens, and tries to make it fit to his Muslims, while lying about what happened. As such the best replacement for this passage is: “”, the empty sentence.
