Story of Zaqqum

The story of Zaqqum is part of the “features” of Muhammad’s torture porn about Islamic Fire.

Stories of Zaqqum in the Koran

There’s mention of a cursed tree in Koran 17:60:

And [remember, O Muhammad], when We told you, “Indeed, your Lord has encompassed the people.”

And We did not make the sight which We showed you except as a trial for the people, as was the accursed tree [mentioned] in the Qur’an. And We threaten them, but it increases them not except in great transgression.

Koran 17:60

There are at least three stories about the tree of Zaqqum in Muhammad’s Koran, which are below:

37:62 Is that [i.e., Paradise] a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqūm?

63 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.

64 Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, 65 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.

66 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.

67 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.

68 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.

69 Indeed they found their fathers astray.

70 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.

Koran 37:62-70

44:43 Indeed, the tree of zaqqūm 44 Is food for the sinful.

45 Like murky oil, it boils within bellies 46 Like the boiling of scalding water.

47 [It will be commanded], “Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire, 48 Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water.”

49 [It will be said], “Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble! 50 Indeed, this is what you used to dispute.”

Koran 44:43-50

56:41 And the companions of the left – what are the companions of the left?

42 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 43 And a shade of black smoke, 44 Neither cool nor beneficial.

45 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 46 And they used to persist in the great violation, 47 And they used to say, “When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 48 And our forefathers [as well]?”

49 Say, [O Muḥammad], “Indeed, the former and later peoples 50 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day.”

51 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 52 Will be eating from trees of zaqqūm 53 And filling with it your bellies 54 And drinking on top of it from scalding water.

55 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels.

56 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense.

Koran 56:41-56

Naturally, three stories are suspicious. If Allah truly is one, then only one story of the Zaqqum tree is sufficient. Having three is reminiscent of the Trinity in Christianity, the Bible and the Torah, showing Muhammad being influenced by Christianity and the Trinity subconsciously.

Another mention here in Koran 88:4-7:

88:4 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.

5 They will be given drink from a boiling spring.

6 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 7 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.

Koran 88:4-7

I wonder if there’s a third reference, which I haven’t yet noticed?

What is Zaqqum?

So, what is a Zaqqum tree? Muhammad is very sparse on details:

  • the tree of Zaqqūm;
  • fruit as if it was the heads of the devils;
  • it boils within bellies like the boiling of scalding water.

So, what is the Tree of Zaqqum and its fruit? Well, it’s not this, Jack Fruit:

Jack Fruit

The picture above is Jack Fruit, supposedly named after the fruit of the Tree of Zaqqum.

There’s this amusing story in Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 17:60:

When the Messenger of Allah told them that he had seen Paradise and Hell, and seen the Tree of Zaqqum, they did not believe that, and Abu Jahl, upon whom be the curses of Allah, even said, “Bring us some dates and butter,” and he started eating them and saying, “Let us have some Zaqqum, we don’t know any other Zaqqum but this.”

Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 17:60

So, what are the fruits of Zaqqum? It seems like it’s merely dates and butter, perhaps this butter disagrees with Muhammad, “it boils within bellies”, giving him an upset tummy?

What’s worse is that this is an example of miscommunication, Muhammad not knowing the right words and no one knowing what Muhammad means, except perhaps: “dates and butter”.

Perhaps Muhammad overheard a bad translation of NLT Proverbs 1:31:

Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes.

NLT Proverbs 1:31

And thought of prickly cactus:

Prickly cactus

Whatever Zaqqum is, it’s an example of miscommunication and thus incompetence, showing Muhammad was a false prophet for a false god, Allah, for a false religion, Islam, without even a false book, the Koran.

Time Ordering Zaqqum

But, let’s assume Muhammad really was a true prophet, ignored by his people, the Quraysh, the Nabateans, and mocked by his enemy, Abu Jahl. Let’s use the clues in the stories, to work out the correct order of revelation to Muhammad.

The mention: “he had seen Paradise and Hell” in Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 17:60 seems to refer to the Moon Splitting? episode, which has to occur before, and then mentions the Tree of Zaqqum:

88:4 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.

5 They will be given drink from a boiling spring.

6 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 7 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.

Koran 88:4-7

When the Messenger of Allah told them that he had seen Paradise and Hell, and seen the Tree of Zaqqum, they did not believe that, and Abu Jahl, upon whom be the curses of Allah, even said, “Bring us some dates and butter,” and he started eating them and saying, “Let us have some Zaqqum, we don’t know any other Zaqqum but this.”

Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 17:60

The reaction of Abu Jahl, reported back, not by messenger angels, but by his Muslims, then requires Muhammad’s revenge fantasy in reaction:

44:43 Indeed, the tree of zaqqūm 44 Is food for the sinful.

45 Like murky oil, it boils within bellies 46 Like the boiling of scalding water.

47 [It will be commanded], “Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire, 48 Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water.”

49 [It will be said], “Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble! 50 Indeed, this is what you used to dispute.”

Koran 44:43-50

And [remember, O Muhammad], when We told you, “Indeed, your Lord has encompassed the people.”

And We did not make the sight which We showed you except as a trial for the people, as was the accursed tree [mentioned] in the Qur’an. And We threaten them, but it increases them not except in great transgression.

Koran 17:60

So, the time ordered “revelation”, could be:

  1. Koran 88:4-7;
  2. Koran 37:62-70;
  3. Koran 56:41-56;
  4. Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 17:60;
  5. Koran 44:43-50;
  6. Koran 17:60.

Obviously, this shows that the current chapter order of Muhammad’s Koran is corrupted compared to the historical “revelation” order, and thus from that alone, we know Muhammad’s Koran is false, so Muhammad, Islam and Allah are false.

But, Infidel, that’s just your order! Even ordering the chapters, like this:

  1. Koran 37:62-70;
  2. Koran 56:41-56;
  3. Koran 88:4-7;
  4. Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 17:60;
  5. Koran 17:60;
  6. Koran 44:43-50.

This still shows that Muhammad’s Koran is out of order with respect to “revelation” order through time.

Muhammad was mocked by Abu Jahl as a false prophet in Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 17:60, leading to Muhammad inadvertently revealing that he was a false prophet, for a false god, Allah, for a false religion, Islam, without even a false book, Koran.
