Story of Idris

Story of Idris in “Scripture”

There’s no story of Idris in “Scripture”, the Torah or the Bible.

Islamic tradition has unanimously identified Idris with the biblical Enoch, although many Muslim scholars of the classical and medieval periods also held that Idris and Hermes Trismegistus were the same person.

…several historians have proposed that this Quranic figure is derived from “Andreas”, the immortality-achieving cook from the Syriac Alexander romance. In addition, historian Patricia Crone proposes that both “Idris” and “Andreas” are derived from the Akkadianepic of Atra-Hasis.

Obviously, Muhammad was unable to connect this character with an established prophet, and what Muhammad states in his Koran, seems to rely upon his listeners already being familiar with a tale told about “Idris”.

Stories of Idris in the Koran

The Stories of Idris, by Muhammad, in his Koran

Mention of Idris

19:56 And mention in the Book, Idrees. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet. 57 And We raised him to a high station.

Koran 19:56-57

Mention of Idris

21:85 And [mention] Ishmael and Idrees and Dhul-Kifl; all were of the patient. 86 And We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were of the righteous.

Koran 21:85-86

And that’s it. That is all the Koran from Muhammad has about “Idris”. This is simply Muhammad name-dropping to appear mysterious and wise.

An empty bowl of nothing.

Muhammad was a false prophet, for a false god, Allah, for a false religion, Islam, without even a false book, the Koran.
