Muhammad’s Red Robe

Muhammad’s red, red, red robe.

The verse “And no Prophet could (ever) be false to his trust” was revealed about a red velvet [robe].

When it was found missing on the day of Badr, some people said: “Perhaps the Messenger of Allah has taken it.”

So Allah, the Exalted, sent down “And no prophet could (ever) be false to his trust” to the end of the verse.

Sunan Abi Dawud 3971

This Ayah: It is not for a Prophet to illegally take a part of the booty… (3:161) was revealed about a red robe that was missing from the Day of Badr.

Some of the people said: ‘Perhaps the Messenger of Allah took it.’

So Allah, Blessed and Most High, revealed: It is not for a Prophet to illegally take a part of the booty… until the end of the Ayah.

Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3009
“man with locks hanging down to shoulders in [a] red robe”

I did not see any man with locks hanging down to shoulders in red robe more beautiful than the Messenger of Allah.

Excerpt, Sunan Abi Dawud 4183

The Prophet was of a modest height. I saw him wearing a red suit, and I did not see anything better than him.

Sahih al-Bukhari 5848

The Messenger of Allah had hair which reached the lobes of his ears, and I saw him wearing red robe. I did not see anything more beautiful than it.

Sunan Abi Dawud 4072

I saw Allah’s Messenger on a cloudless night, and he was wearing a red suit of clothes, so I started looking at him as well as at the moon, for he is indeed more beautiful, in my opinion, than the moon!

Excerpt, Ash-Shama’il Al-Muhammadiyah 10

I never saw anyone more handsome then the Messenger of Allah, with his hair combed, wearing a red two-piece suit.

Sunan Ibn Majah 3599
“a red velvet cloak was placed beneath him.”

When the Messenger of Allah was buried, a red velvet cloak was placed beneath him.

Sunan an-Nasa’i 2012

Ibn ‘Abbas said that a piece of red stuff was put in the grave of Allah’s Messenger.

Sahih Muslim 967

It is not [attributable] to any prophet that he would act unfaithfully [in regard to war booty].

And whoever betrays, [taking unlawfully], will come with what he took on the Day of Resurrection.

Then will every soul be [fully] compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged.

Koran 3:161
Definitely not Muhammad in his new red robes.

According to Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 3:159, Koran 3:161 was revealed:

…in connection with a red robe that was missing from the spoils of war of Badr. Some people said that the Messenger of Allah might have taken it. When this rumor circulated, Allah sent down, [this verse]…

Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 3:159

Let’s imagine Allah was real and Muhammad was really the prophet of Allah, then Allah through Jibril and Muhammad would reveal the true culprit, the Muslim who had stolen the red robe from the war booty. But Muhammad didn’t do that, instead, Muhammad spoke:

“It is not [attributable] to any prophet that he would act unfaithfully [in regard to war booty].”

Muhammad the red robe thief

This means that Muhammad had stolen the red robe and was deceiving his Muslim bandits about it. Muhammad’s greed and theft reveal that Allah is imaginary, that Muhammad is a false prophet and Islam is false, a cult for thieving bandits who have no honour. Muhammad talking to himself shows he knows he’s guilty of theft.

What’s the punishment for theft in Islam?
