What, or more importantly, who are the Darknesses in the Koran? Do note that in the following quotes, I’ve changed the translation to correctly show the plural “darkness” as “darknesses”. The link is to the original translation, showing the singular “darkness” instead of the plural. The translators fail to realise that Mo is trying to mock his enemies, the Darknesses.
Koran 2:17
Their example is that of one who kindled a fire, but when it illuminated what was around him, Allāh took away their light and left them in darknesses they could not see.

Muhammad was frightened of the Darknesses, the thunderclaps against him, telling him he was a liar and mad. So he had Allah surround the disbelievers, the Darknesses, in Mecca. In Christianity and Judaism, God encompasses the believers.

And those who disbelieve – their allies are Taghut.
They take them out of the light into darknesses.
Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.

Koran 5:15-16
5:15 O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much.
There has come to you from Allāh a light and a clear Book 16 By which Allāh guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darknesses into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path.

Remember, Muhammad didn’t have a book, but was a “light”.

Now you can see that the “darknesses” and the “light” refer to the Meccans and Muhammad. The “Darknesses” are those who disbelieve – those who associate with Allah the idol, which the Meccans did, along with Muhammad before he invented Islam and in the Satanic Verses.

The disbelievers are the people and the “one” in the Darknesses; in Mecca. The one is the Eminent.

Say, “Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?”
Say, “Allāh.”
Say, “Have you then taken besides Him allies not possessing [even] for themselves any benefit or any harm?”
Say, “Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is Darknesses equivalent to light? Or have they attributed to Allāh partners who created like His creation so that the creation seemed similar to them?”
Say, “Allāh is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing.”

The Darknesses are the blind, those who attribute daughters (and a wife) to Allah, the moon god idol. Note the association here: Muhammad claims the daughters create. If there was one creation, then there’s no need to assert there are more creations: “partners who created like His creation”.
Koran 14:1-3 & 5
14:1 Alif, Lām, Rā. a Book which We have revealed to you, that you might bring mankind out of the Darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord – to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy – 2 Allāh, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And woe to the disbelievers from a severe punishment – 3 The ones who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and avert from the way of Allāh, seeking to make it deviant.
Those are in extreme error.
Koran 14:1-3
And We certainly sent Moses with Our signs, “Bring out your people from the Darknesses into the light and remind them of the days of Allāh.”
Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

The Darknesses are they who associate with Allah the idol, the Meccans. The “Mercy” is the rain that ends the drought, preceded by the winds.
Koran 33:43 & 48
It is He who confers blessing upon you, and His angels that He may bring you out from the Darknesses into the light. And ever is He, to the believers, Merciful.

Notice “three” not “the”.
He created you from one soul. Then He made from it its mate, and He produced for you from the grazing livestock eight mates. He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, within three darknesses. That is Allāh, your Lord; to Him belongs dominion. There is no deity except Him, so how are you averted?

Conclusion
The Arabic has plural Darknesses – referring to the rulers of Mecca who stoned Muhammad and cast him out. The English translations, written by Muslims, change the plural to singular in the translation, by mistake, because the translators didn’t recognise that the Darknesses refers to the rulers of Mecca who opposed Muhammad’s rebellion.
Muhammad was a false prophet, for a false god, Allah, for a false religion, Islam, without even a false book, the Koran.
