Allah the Choreographer

Would you like to dance with Allah, Jibril and Muhammad?

That Day, they [i.e., everyone] will follow [the call of] the Caller [with] no deviation therefrom, and [all] voices will be stilled before the Most Merciful, so you will not hear except a whisper [of footsteps].
Koran 20:108

What is a Choreographer?

A choreographer designs and directs the movement and dance sequences for performances, productions, or events. Choreographers work closely with directors, producers, and performers to conceptualize, develop, and stage dance routines that enhance the storytelling, emotional expression, and artistic vision of a performance. They may specialize in various styles of dance, such as ballet, modern dance, jazz, hip-hop, or contemporary dance.

In addition to creating dance sequences, choreographers may also be responsible for teaching and rehearsing performers, refining movement sequences, and ensuring that dancers execute choreography with precision, timing, and expression. They can work in various settings, including theaters, dance studios, film and television studios, music videos, live events, and educational institutions, where they contribute their artistic vision and expertise to create memorable and impactful dance experiences.

But, what is the right choreography?

Lightning-Fast Choreography

They walk therein every time it lights for them, but they stand when darkness comes over them.

The lightning almost snatches away their sight.

Every time it lights [the way] for them, they walk therein; but when darkness comes over them, they stand [still].

And if Allāh had willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight.

Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.

Fathers’ Choreography

We have our fathers’ dance moves:

Rather, they say, “Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are in their footsteps [rightly] guided.”
Koran 43:22

And similarly, We did not send before you any warner into a city except that its affluent said, “Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are, in their footsteps, following.”

So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.

Satan’s Choreography

O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.
Koran 2:168

O you who have believed, enter into Islām completely [and perfectly] and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.
Koran 2:208

And of the grazing livestock are carriers [of burdens] and those [too] small.

Eat of what Allāh has provided for you and do not follow the footsteps of Satan.

Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.
Koran 6:142

O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan – indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing. And if not for the favor of Allāh upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure, ever, but Allāh purifies whom He wills, and Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

This is like a four-step, centred around the self.

The Choreography of Jesus

And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous.
Koran 5:46

Then We sent following their footsteps [i.e., traditions] Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy and monasticism, which they innovated; We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allāh. But they did not observe it with due observance. So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.
