And if you are on a journey and cannot find a scribe, then a security deposit [should be] taken.
And if one of you entrusts another, then let him who is entrusted discharge his trust [faithfully] and let him fear Allah, his Lord.
And do not conceal testimony, for whoever conceals it – his heart is indeed sinful, and Allah is Knowing of what you do.
Koran 2:283
From Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 2:283, there’s this story:
…the Messenger of Allah died while his shield was mortgaged with a Jew in return for thirty Wasq (approximately 180 kg) of barley, which the Prophet bought on credit as provisions for his household.
Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 2:283
That says it all really. Muhammad concealed the testimony of his debt with the Jew. Muhammad’s heart is sinful. Note also that the Jew involved obviously didn’t follow Muhammad’s false god but his own god: “let him fear Allah (Muhammad’s false god), his Lord (the Jew’s god separate from imaginary Allah)”.
Worse, this story shows that Muhammad relied upon at least one Jew for help in supporting his household, thus showing that this one Jew and 180kg of barley is more powerful than imaginary Allah. Muhammad pawned his shield for barley seed to feed his family. Muhammad knew that Allah is imaginary and has no bounty. Muhammad relying upon this Jew for food shows he was a beggar.
Note that Muhammad is speaking about Allah in the third person. These aren’t the perfect words of the perfect Qur’an from perfect Allah. Thus from this account, you can see that the best replacement for this verse is: “”, the empty sentence.
